10 Bloggers’ Checklists You Should Review Today
I love that checklists reduce my brainwork. The more I have on a checklist in front of me, the less I have to remember to do. Fewer things fall through the cracks around here when I have a checklist. That’s why I created the DIY SEO Checklist (as much for me as for you) and made it available to subscribers. It helps.
Yesterday, I was doing my usual Sunday afternoon cruise around the blogosphere and came across Marelisa’s Blogger Checklist (everything you should do before you click publish) and enjoyed how complete it was.
My curiosity got the better of me, and I Googled ‘bloggers checklist’ to see how many other bloggers had come up with a checklist to help them with their blogging. I was going to create my own, but thought I might check what was already out there first. I’m glad I did, as I found some great stuff.
Before You Begin Blogging
BloggingBasics101 offers a New Blogger’s Checklist with some great advice about having a plan vs. just diving in.
For Your Posts (and Pages)
Jennifer Slegg published a pre-publish checklist similar to Marelisa’s.
Wordplay offers a Short Checklist of Writng Tools for Bloggers.
For Your Site, Overall
Skellie has a great usability checklist that helps you improve the usability of your blog/site. Usability is often sacrificed for the sake of slick design and that’s a shame. I think you can have both. This list will help you find that balance.
Liz Strauss recommends you look at your blog the way your readers do and plug the holes in your blog with her Blog Review Checklist.
DailyBlogTips offers a WordPress Blog Maintenance Checklist to keep your blog healthy and in good working order.
Crea8d Design does a Blog Cleanup Checklist and recommends you use it as a guide for blog spring cleaning.
Search Engine Guide provides a master website marketing checklist covering over 400 specific items over 23 topics. These topics include things such as website development, SEO, usability, accessibility, etc. This list doesn’t cover any “how tos,” which are essential ingredients to successful online marketing, but sometimes you need to first know what to do so you can then discover how to do it.
Community
Word of Mouth Marketing Association (WOMMA) offers 10 Principles for Ethical Contact by Marketers, and recommends reviewing these guidelines before initiating any contact with other bloggers.

Great lists! This one may not be about blogging, but it’s a very cool list just the same (Top 50 Things Everyone Needs To Know How To Do):

Nancy – that is a great list. Thanks for letting us know about it! I was happy to see that there are only a handful on that list that I don’t know how to do already.
Carla – you’re welcome, and thanks for stopping by!

I had no idea “The Chicago Manual of Style” was online (found it in “A Short Checklist of Writing Tools for Writers”), awesome
I’m going to have to come back and take a look at some of the other links you provide here. Thank you for mentioning me.

Marelisa – you’re welcome! It’s funny you mention “The Chicago Manual of Style”, as I had the same reaction when I found it, and is the reason I included that checklist here. I just love the things I find in my Sunday surf sessions.

Great list, especially the one about attaining usability and ‘cool’ designs. I too often see blogs covered with pictures and logo’s which could be converted to crawlable and indexable text! That’s one mistake I made when first starting my blog, too many pretty pictures and not enough effective text. Don’t let that be a mistake because many people make that mistake.
