Why I Do Those Free Calls
Free training for you, folks. Pure and simple. Ok, and because I like doing calls, and because I like helping you, and because some of you out there don’t have the budget to hire me to tutor you, and…well there are a lot of reasons. But the big one is free training for you. ‘Cuz I appreciate it when I can get free training, and I figure you do, too. And no, I don’t spend the last 10 minutes of the call telling you all the wonderful things I could do for you if you hired me. No sales pitch, just your questions – answered.
Maybe it’s difficult to gauge whether something billed as an “Open Q&A Call” is worth the hour out of your day. Hey, I get that. I have the same dilemma with the calls that are offered to me.
Maybe you’re at the job on Thursday afternoons. That used to be me. Way long time ago, but I remember.
And if an evening call would suit your schedule better, let me know in the comments below, because even though it’s like a circus around here when the kids are home, school is almost out and that means I won’t be reeling them in to go to bed at a decent hour soon. So, I could entertain the idea of evening calls, at least for the summer months, if that helps you. But I can’t read your mind or see your calendar, so you gotta let me know, ok?
Cool.
Today’s call answered some pressing questions about HTML in posts and text widgets, and even got one of the participants some free work on her site. Yeah, you read that right – free work on her site. (Hey, I’ve gotta have something to work with – might as well be your site instead of a dummy one I set up for the call, right?)
Most of the participant’s questions centered around HTML and how to go beyond what WordPress provides in the way of manually affecting the presentation of your text (a.k.a. overriding your site?s theme.)
The caveat they all agreed to before I began was that they promised not to make their sites that I worked so hard to make lovely look like Crayola had puked all over them or that they?d moved to Las Vegas. They agreed.
Before you read any further, you must agree, too.
Agreed?
Ok, good – ‘cuz I’m hard pressed to think of anything that bugs me more than cheesy looking websites and blogs, and the willy-nilly use of fonts, colors and some of the other tricks I shared today can – in the wrong hands – create exactly that: cheesy looking websites. Ugh. I am on a mission to rid the Internet of cheesy-looking websites – one site at a time.
So, you have to promise to use your new powers for good, not evil.
Ok then. Download the call notes. (It’s a PDF because code examples are a pain in the butt to do here.)

Thanks for the download Suzanne. I missed the call, and it sounds like I missed a lot. I hate when that happens!
