In Other Words: January 16, 2009

contentIn a perfect world, I would clone myself (probably multiple times) so that one of me could just read great blog posts all day long. (Another would be reading the book I’ve assigned to myself each week…but that’s a post for another day.) There is no shortage of great information in the blogosphere, so what follows is a list of what’s caught my attention recently – written by others – that I want to share with you. There’s something for everyone, most likely. Read what you like, leave the rest.

How to Brain Dump Tasks to Increase Your Productivity

by Yaro Starak of Entrepreneurs-Journey.com
It takes a lot of energy to keep track of stuff in your head, and leaves you less energy to do what you’ve got to do. I used to think of my ability to keep track of all that crap in my head as some kind of badge of honor. Just another example of how I used to shortchange myself on a regular basis. Yaro illuminates the need and one method for getting it all out. I agree with his method, but have adopted a more specific “how” with Todoodlist that works well for my chaotic, visually-oriented brain.

Five Mood Enhancers for Business Success

by Tom Volkar of DelightfulWork.com
When it comes to success and how to achieve it, we delude ourselves into thinking the critical ingredient is knowledge, information, skill, or experience. No, it’s not. It’s feeling like doing what it takes. Case in point: I have work I could be doing right now, but I don’t feel like working, I feel like writing. Truth be told, I REALLY feel like taking a nap. But, while I work on getting over my inner resistance to sleeping while the sun is up, a productive and value-added activity that won’t overwork my tired brain cells is sharing these posts with you. In this post, Tom gives us a list of 5 ingredients to feeling like doing what we say we want to do, whether it’s lose weight, grow a business, clean out the closet or write a book. Check and see if you’re missing any ingredients…it might explain why you are avoiding doing that one thing you say you most want to do.

Mercury Retrograde – Jan. 11 – Feb 1

by Lisa Zimmerman of SoulLevelSolutions.com
Have you lost a file on your computer, had a flat tire, or like me, tried to turn on your expensive-ass Pioneer stereo receiver that cost more than your computer only to have it sit there, unresponsive? Had a rash of miscommunications going on lately? You know what’s up? Mercury is in retrograde. Laugh if you want to, but there is an astrological explanation for this three-week period of communications/electronic/mechanical snafus we’re in the middle of right now. The news is not all bad, though. There are some really great things going on now, too. Let Lisa explain it to you – she does a much better job than I could.

10 Blog Directories You Should Be Listed In

by Adam Toren at Blogtrepreneur.com
Looking for more traffic for your blog? Read this post listing 10 blog directories you should be listed in. I’m happy to report I’m listed in all 10 (now…) and the process was neither painful or tedious. One word of caution: make sure you get the most bang from your buck by writing a strong description of your site BEFORE you go list yourself in these directories. All of them ask for a site description, as I recall, and this is where you directly affect whether people will click on through to you…or not.

I have more, but I don’t want to overwhelm you. What posts have you come across recently that you found valuable? Leave a comment and share!
